Product Feature - Simple UX for Powerful Experiences

This week we’re looking at the Simplified User Experience Design.

As a continuation of our series of product features focused on what makes the App Platform a perfect platform to build a Kids oriented OTT Service, last week’s being the Art Pad, this week we are looking at the Simplified User Experience Design.

Great UX is an essential feature of any service: put simply, people won’t want to use services or tools that don’t behave intuitively. Being able to navigate a service with ease is a key component in usability and this can be a common challenge for even basic services, but when you are dealing with users who may not be able to easily read, this can lead to extra challenges.

Our App Platform is already configured to feature a very clean and easy to use interface, with clear icons for navigation and a simple layout that makes our Apps a breeze to use. As all of our apps are expertly curated by our customers, parents can feel at ease allowing their children unsupervised use of the services, so its important that we focus on making the apps navigable for people of all ages, this means focusing on imagery and bright colour schemes as much as the text.

How we create a clean UX is an essential part of the process, our in house creative team scope out multiple variations or potential UI patterns gleaned from focus groups and AB testing.  These are then evaluated across our business in conjunction with our customers and our dotmocracy allows us to hone in on the most viable designs. These solutions are then iterated on until we are happy with 2 or 3 solutions we feel would work for our client’s users.

Another important feature of the kids focussed applications we build, addresses unsupervised use since little hands probably shouldn’t be manipulating the general device settings – we do this by locking the screen settings that can be unlocked by answering a simple maths question, that only someone of a certain age would be able to complete in order to make sure settings are not accidentally altered and inappropriate content viewed.
