Challenge

Bespoke API and low latency live streaming solutions

SIS, a leading provider of horse and dog racing streams to bookmakers, appointed Simplestream to build a bespoke API and low latency live streaming solution to delivery 100s of streams to millions of punters globally, including syndication and reporting of video streams to leading bookmakers Sky Bet, Paddy Power and Bet365.

Solutions

Simplified architecture and a bespoke data entry system

Using Media Manager, Simplestream’s proprietary CMS, a bespoke data entry system was created supporting multiple data sets including Events, Meetings, Venues, Sport Type and Country Of Origin. Data is ingested in real-time from SIS’s internal systems. An advanced permissions system allows SIS to assign events to their Customers using the concepts of Assets, Contracts and Entitlements.

Data in the CMS is exposed to bookmaker partners using a REST API, supporting auto-scaling for limitless delivery of video streams to 10,000s of concurrent viewers globally.

Live streams are delivered to Simplestream’s origin and CDN from encoders located at SIS. Streams are additionally delivered to Phenix, a low latency streaming partner.

Results

Highly flexible content syndication service

Simplestream delivered this highly bespoke solution within just six weeks allowing SIS to transition from the previous provider on time and without any service interruption. The Simplestream solution provides a highly flexible content syndication service for live video streams, with SIS now able to self onboard additional bookmakers with full control over content access rights and reporting.
